Project Summary:
Due
to increased flow and loading, the Town upgraded its treatment facility in
1997. The
upgrade
required an expansion of the sludge dewatering operations. The existing belt
dewatering
press had been operating reliably and efficiently since 1993. The 1997 upgrade
included a new Gravity Belt Thickener (GBT) followed by the original, relocated
belt dewatering press.
Use
of the GBT decreases the volume of sludge applied to the belt press. In
addition, overall
manpower
and maintenance requirements are reduced with this arrangement. The thickened
sludge
also results in a drier dewatered cake. The dried sludge in then processed
on-site,
using
static pile composting.
Our special thanks to Bill Cowles, Chief Operator. Bill's
thorough understanding of the
dewatering equipment is what makes the equipment perform so well at his
facility.
