Project Summary:
An
existing vacuum filter produced a wet cake and used a large amount of slurried
lime and
ferric
chloride. With the cost to operate the City’s sludge incinerator being largely
dependent
on
the inlet cake dryness and chemical content, alternative dewatering
technologies were evaluated. In 1981 a belt dewatering press was installed at
the North Plant. A dryer cake and
decreased chemical usage dramatically improved the efficiency of the
incinerator.
Based
on the results at the North Plant, a similar machine was installed at the South Plant.
Since that time, the County decided to add a second BDP machine at each of the
two facilities.
The
County's dewatering system now has increased throughput capability and
redundant equipment. Rich Lyon’s dedication to his profession has resulted in
significant operating cost savings for the County.
